WB4UBK RMS Tri-mode initial operations at reduced power
After successfully placing my VARA FM Gateway (WB4UBK-12) into operational status, I have placed together a RMS Tri-mode HF station into initial operational mode.
The antenna is a end-fed half wave antenna oriented east-west. Power is set for 5 watts for testing purposes but upon testing completion will be increased to 50 watts. Only using VARA at this time.
Power is currently supplied by a 30Ah LiFePO4 battery on an AC charger. My next project is to construct a solar generator system and power distribution panel using 200 watts of solar panels and a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery. The entire station is powered with 12VDC (radios, computer, ancillary equipment). Since I have previously placed a solar generator (400 Ah battery power, 3kw AC inverter, 1000 watts solar panel) in operation at my house, this should be a quickly accomplished.
RMS Relay has not been implemented at this time (one step at a time). Setting up any gateway, HF or VHF, is quite an undertaking. Having been licensed since 1968, I have used items that other hams have provided for the improvement of ham radio. I hope that my Winlink gateways will in some small way help to repay the debt owed to many others. In addition, I hope that my station will be a help to provide a communications resource to train others and to support actual emergency operations.
