KC8ZKI Gateway is ready for Pactor 4

Greetings,

I have replaced the PTC-IIex modem with a DR-7800 to support P4. The FCC change adopted Nov 11th, should go into effect on December 21th allowing us to use P4. I am thinking the change will see more used P3 modems on the market encouraging hams to experiment using hardware. ARDOP and particularly VARA work well enough. In fact, VARA works great at both extremes of the S/N spectrum, very high and very low. The majority of the connections I see are in low to mid S/N ratio region in which PACTOR, from my experience, works much better. I often see 600bps PACTOR at S/N levels that have VARA plodding along at 88bps. Drop me an email at [email protected] and say hi. 73' John KC8ZKI
