HB9AK-14: The WL gateway on mount Titlis (3000 m / 10'000 ' asl) now QRV again on 10 m
Building antennas for the adverse condx you often encounter on high mountains is not a simple task. Since we put up our WL gateway on mount Titlis in Central Switzerland, we experienced a lot of problems with the 10 m wire dipole we have put up there. In wintertime, ice is building up on the wires, and the antenna often did not survive heavy storms. Usually, you have to wait for the warmer season to go there and perform the necessary repair work.
This year, we had to wait exceptionally long for favorable weather, but now it's finally done. The gateway is operational again, and it's a good time to test it, as the band openings on 10 m make DX contacts rather easy.
And for those living within a range of 100 to 150 km from Titlis: There is also a UHF WL gateway (VARA FM and Packet) on the mountain.
