Instructions for Using Winlink 2000 WebMail

Prior to using WebMail you must establish a WL2K radio e-mail account using Airmail or Paclink to send one message via a WL2K radio or telnet gateway.

WebMail requires a password - You can not log in to WebMail without a password. If you haven't previously established a password you can request that WebMail send a new password to your winlink.org radio e-mail account. You will need to retrieve that message using Airmail or Paclink software. Once you have your password you can log in to WebMail and then change your password for security.

Once this is accomplished you can use WebMail to read and send basic plain-text messages. Attachments are not allowed and any attachments on received messages are not viewable. Reading mail using WebMail does not prevent you from reading it using other methods (Airmail, PacLink, etc.). Messages are NOT deleted from the server by default after reading. You must use the "Kill" link to specifically remove them.

Spam settings - Winlink WebMail allows you to configure basic settings to assist in reducing spam or other unwanted email. A white (accept) list is now enabled by default. Black list (reject list) features are no longer needed as all incoming internet messages are considered to be on a "black list" unless you specifically enable receipt of them by including the sender's email address or domain name in your "white list". Messages from addresses on your white list are passed through to you. Messages from addresses or domains not on your whitelist will be blocked with a message back to the originator containing a link to a page that explains how to send messages to Winlink users.

Secure Radio Access prevents the possibility of someone else "spoofing" your callsign and connecting to your mailbox. This has not been a significant problem in the past, but if desired a password-protected login can be requested. This is not without risk, read everything here! In Airmail you will need to open the Tools/Options window, Settings tab, and enter the same password in the box under your ham callsign. Do not check "password required", unless you want to disconnect if Winlink does NOT ask for your password. WARNING: Enabling secure login carries the risk that you will be unable to connect, because of errors on your part, on the part of system operators, or possibly software errors. DO NOT REQUEST SECURE LOGON unless you have an alternate email path available to correct errors with your password, or you may be locked out of your account with no e-mail access.

WL2K WebMail and Web Site Account Differences

Please don't confuse your WL2K e-mail account with an account on this web site! Currently, your WL2K e-mail account and password is NOT linked with the Login/password associated with a web site account. You may naturally assume this is so, but it is not. We are working on integrating the two databases. Thanks for your patience.
